Pasta and Chicken

Here it is, our first personal blog post of the week from our very own Assistant Producer, Phoebe Graham

'Pasta and Chicken'

It’s low tide in Bristol. As the summer months have broken through the clouds, the hub of the student community has flooded out, leaving a ghostly impression on the streets of the University.

There are still silhouettes of students drifting around, caught between the identity of two academic years, or at a very loose end of post-degree and pre-graduation. A proportionally large collection of these figures are, of course, the ever-enthusiastic members of the theatre community of Bristol University, filling up the opened breathing space with Fringe Festival preparations.

I have just arrived back in Bristol after taking a fleeting 10-day holiday in Italy before the onslaught of the rehearsal intensive. I returned bone-white to the now skeletal residences of Stoke Bishop, only to find that the Number 16 bus, on which I had come to rely, had permanently driven off along with everyone else. Inevitable daily walks to and from the university precinct are now met with a peaceful air that I never seemed to be able to take in during my first year.

It was in this drowsy context that my first Hurricane Hands production meeting of the holidays was organised: an organisational dusting and polish at Peter Chicken’s (aka Mr. Producer’s) house. I was promised that there would be Bolognese cushioned by Sainsburys Basics pasta shapes provided. Chicken and pasta - what more could I ask for?

Bellies full and notepads empty, Chicken and I quickly rectified this imbalance and brainstormed everything we would have to anticipate in the coming months, and divided this up into imminent tasks. The birth of this blog being one of them.

Pieces of our little summer jigsaw are swiftly being put in place. All social media pages are now up and running (links can be found at the bottom of the website), the press release has been sent off to journalists far and wide, and our JustGiving page has been well established.

Cast rehearsals will begin again on the 4th July, so watch this space for press and production photos. All is being geared towards our upcoming previews of The Girl with the Hurricane Hands (and other short tales of woe) at the Alma Tavern from the 14th-19th July! Book your tickets now if you haven’t had a chance to!

Every penny counts for this creative but inevitably pricey process. Any donations would be really appreciated! Find the JustGiving link here:

lots of love from Phoebe
