OUR STORY.

our story

Studiospace is Bristol University’s in-house theatre and film society that works tirelessly to provide extra-curricular opportunities for students to put the skills learnt in their degrees into practice. One such opportunity is taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which we hope to do for the second year running with our production of ‘The Girl with the Hurricane Hands (and other short tales of woe)’ this year.

The play is a series of short stories written in verse by the talented Phoebe Simmonds, depicting the upbringing of five children born with absurdist “deformities” such as having hurricanes instead of hands, or having the ability to accidentally stop time in its tracks.

We’re proud to be taking this show to the Edinburgh Fringe ‘Free Festival’, to the esteemed Free Sisters venue, where audiences won't have to pay a single penny to see our show. We believe strongly in making theatre accessible to anyone who wants to see it, regardless of age or financial background, and as such we’re thrilled that our production will be able to present ground-breaking theatre, without breaking the bank for our audiences.

Nevertheless, on top of incredibly generous grants from Studiospace and the Bristol Alumni Foundation, we could still use any spare pounds and pennies to make this beautiful play a reality. Your donations will go towards administration fees, marketing and production costs, as well as alleviating the transportation and accommodation costs from our team of 12 dedicated performers and production team members.

Studiospace’s presence at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will serve to heighten the profile of Bristol University’s theatre degree by presenting student’s work at an international festival.

We are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support.
