Our differences define us, when we grow up more than ever. But can you imagine growing up with hurricanes instead of hands?

​

The Girl with the Hurricane Hands (and other short tales of woe) is a collection of five rhyming short stories focusing on the birth, childhood and adolescence of a child with an absurdist "deformity", which is usually a result of a strange conception. In the case of the eponymous girl who is born with small hurricanes instead of hands, her sweet nature juxtaposes her tempestuous body, causing her endless strife and heartbreak.

These short tales of woe depict five children with abnormal deformities. If being 'too tall' or 'funny-looking' were difficult insults to contend with as a child, imagine what it would be like to be the girl with the hurricane hands, or the girl with the telescopic eyes? Effortless verse combines with slick physical theatre in this performance for all ages.

​

Our cast of five actors will present each of these short stories with rhythmic verse and polished physicality. Each will adopt the persona of a child faced with overcoming their vast differences in one story, and form the ensemble for the remaining four. The company of Bristol University undergraduates presents this exciting piece of theatre to the Edinburgh Fringe Free Festival!
